Competitions

A Competition Checklist

If you are participating in a competition, please ask your coach about what you should bring with you. But as a rough guideline, here is what some STARSkaters will pack:

  • Clean skates + guards
  • Clean gloves & warm-up jacket (no hoodies)
  • Spare tights
  • 2 copies of program music on CD
  • Skipping rope + running shoes
  • Spare hair accessories/bobby pins + make-up for touch-ups

Skaters may want to arrive with hair and make-up done, and wear their competition outfit. Be sure to talk to your coach about what works best for you.

If this is your first competition:

Skating times for competitions can be found on the Skate Canada - Skate Ontario website; they are usually posted around one week prior to the event.

Plan to arrive a minimum of one hour prior to the scheduled skating time. Be sure to factor in traffic and weather when you are making travel arrangements.

When you arrive at the venue, first, check in and drop off your music (both copies). Then find your coach to make warm-up plans.

Don't leave your skates unattended at any time. Parents, be prepared to babysit gear while your skater does an off-ice warm-up.

At most competitions, you will be able to purchase video/photos of your skater. Look out for the videographer's table – it will mean less of a wait for you if you organize this before your skater takes the ice.

If you've done this many times before:

Don't forget to have fun and cheer for your fellow ASC skaters.

DON'T FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR MUSIC BEFORE YOU LEAVE THE VENUE!!
