PRESTARSKATE / STARSKATE PROGRAMS
For those completed stage 4 of the CanSkate program and wish to continue skating!
PreStarSkate
This program is for CANSkaters that have completed Stage 4 of the CanSkate program and are interested in Figure Skating (STARSkate). Private lessons are highly recommended but not mandatory and these are to be arranged directly with a staff coach of your choice, please see our coaches page for information.
PreStar sessions are 1 hour in length and consist of at least 2-15 min group lessons led by a coach, that incorporate CANSkate badges 5 & 6 as well as beginner Figure Skating elements. This will leave skaters with 30 minutes to work on their own unless a private coach has been arranged. Signs are posted with items to work on along with a their own little booklet filled with ideas, progress cards and fun activities.
Once completed Stage 6 CanSkate, skaters move into the StarSkate program which is for those wishing to continue figure skating for recreation (complete tests/compete locally) or for those that wish to be competitive (complete tests and compete at various competitions).

a pattern and skated solo. The basic components of all disciplines of figure
skating are incorporated into the program.
Ice Dance
Ice Dance consists of seven levels of tests. It teaches timing, musicality, rhythm
interpretation, structure as well as basic skating skills such as edges, flow, control and unison.
The dances in the STARSkate Program can be tried in any order but a candidate
must pass the required number of dances in a dance test level, before proceeding
to the next level. In addition to the traditional compulsory dances, there are also
Creative Dances to challenge skaters' creativity, artistry and originality.
Free SkateFree Skating consists of the execution of jumps, spins, footwork, field
movements and stroking, either in isolation or performed in sequence to music.Artistic
The objective of the Artistic program is to encourage and develop skaters'
creativity, expression, musicality, movement, interpretation of music, as well as
the use of space, rhythm, line and style. The program provides skaters with the
opportunity to explore the performance aspect of skating without focusing on
technical elements.
